Lauren and her husband David live with their two boys, Danny and Finley.
2-year-old Finley has a rare genetic condition; Lauren and her family use the nursing service provided by the Pepper Foundation and Rennie Grove Hospice Care. The support provided by the nursing team gives Lauren and David some cherished family time.
“Finley’s condition means that he needs a considerable amount of support, including through the night. We have to change Finley’s physical position regularly to make sure he is comfortable as he isn’t able to move on his own. At night, Finley sleeps with a breathing apparatus.
Since the pandemic, I have been so anxious about coronavirus because Finley is very vulnerable. A nurse that the Pepper Foundation fund visits our home for three hours a week; this time is precious to us as it means David and I can spend some quality time with Finley’s older brother, Danny.
The support from The Pepper Foundation and the nurses is incredible; the nurses really understand the day-to-day struggles and the worries we face. They are like our extended family and are always there, day or night, to give us advice or check on Finley when we need them.”
Global’s Make Some Noise
Global’s Make Some Noise Window of Hope campaign raises money for small charities across the UK, helping people hit hardest during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Pepper Foundation is very lucky to have received support from this campaign; this means we’re always able to fund nurses that help families like Lauren’s.
The Children’s Hospice at Home Service
Our children’s hospice at home nursing service is a partnership with Rennie Grove Hospice Care; the nursing is partly funded by The Pepper Foundation and managed by Rennie Grove Hospice Care. During the Covid-19 pandemic when families have the potential to be cut off from help, the service we fund has become more important than ever.
The nursing team offers specialist palliative care for children and young people who have a life-threatening or life-limiting illness. The nurses also provide emotional support, respite care, and advice for families.
The care services we help to fund are provided are at no cost to patients or their families. The Pepper Foundation relies on donations to help Rennie Grove provide this vital supportive care. You can donate to the Pepper Foundation here.
